Niall played for Strabane for 7 years winning representative honors at all age groups Winning the All Ireland Cup in '98 before 'spitting his dummy' and leaving to play for 2nd division team Fox Lodge. Despite beating his old club in the Quarter Final Stages of the All Ireland cup Niall returned to Strabane with his tail between his legs one year later.
Niall moved to Liverpool in 2000 to attend Liverpool John Moores University, where he became Cricket Club captain, the Uni's record run scorer and the first player to score a Century for LJMU.
He was 'Tapped up to play for Maghull from under the noses of Sefton Park by Uni mate Andy Greene in 2002 . He took over the reigns as Captain from Dickon White unofficially towards the end of the 2004 season when the club was relegated to Division 1 of the LDCC.
His first job as captain was to secure promotion back to the Premier League which was achieved at the first time of asking as Division 1 Champions.
