V Lytham & Leigh
Lost badly saturday.
Better performance on monday with a superb ton for Rootsy, assisted with Paddy and then Kiran.
Bowling was great until number 11 came in to bat he scored 2 runs in 28 overs and shared in a 10th wicket partnership that frustrated us. It was disappointing especially that Leigh had already been relegated at this stage. It was very hard to understand Leigh’s tactics. However let’s hope they enjoy a struggle in the 1st division, because if they bat like this every week they will not be winning many games.
V New Brighton (a)
4 th August 2007
New Brighton won the toss and decided to bat, on a good wicket.

Ryan Swiers |
In their open spells both Paul Bower and Ryan Swiers had little luck finding edges and having a couple of good chances dropped. But despite the openers putting on over 114, (J.While 81 and Thompson 65) and being 172-2. Niall's boys fought back and eventually reduced New Brighton to 253-9 declared after 46 overs. Pick of the bowlers was Kiran 4-46 and Niall 3-38. |
With Paddy missing Rootsy opened with Greg and the opening stand was going very well until Greg was harshly given out with the score on 76.

Snoddy |
Kiran again came and went cheaply and with the score on 91-2. Ryan came in to join Rootsy but despite batting well and putting on 46 for the 3rd wicket Ryan (17) was dismissed.
However, Rootsy continued to bat well, and was joined by his skipper another partnership over 40 was put on before Niall (17) was dismissed, |
Rootsy was eventually out for a very good 64. Simon (27 n.o.) and Snoddy (19), helped us in obtaining a 4th batting point, but the end came when we were bowled out for 196 in 52.2
overs, with Kiwi Jesse Ryder taking an impressive 7-63.
With Bootle losing New Brighton now head the premier league.
Despite gaining 8 bonus points, it was not enough to stop us slipped one place as St Helens won. Although we are 60 points ahead of Huyton our position is far from pleasing for Niall and this was clearly indicated in his pre match talk.
With three home games out of our next four matches Niall is looking for a much improved performance that the last two games.
So we go into next Saturdays game against Hightown and with Paddy available again, full of optimism and certainly not lacking in confidence.

V Fleetwood Hesketh
4 th August 2007
Old Hall Field
Maghull won the toss and put Fleetwood into bat.
Fleetwood put on 73 for the 1st wicket when Bower had Regan caught behind for 34. Murph bowling off a reduced run up then got the wicket of skipper Neil Rimmer for 63.
This brought N. Miller the overseas player to the wicket, he began playing his shots almost immediately and quickly put on 80 for the third wicket with Sykes. Sykes then fell to Kiran Powar for 37 with the score on 206.
Miller continued his assault on our bowlers and when Fleetwood declared on 266 off 53 overs, Miller was 116 not out.
Bowling was not easy but Fleetwood’s score was well constructed.
Paddy |
In reply we got off to probably our best opening start to the season with Paddy and Rootsy putting on 95 for the 1st wicket. Then within in the space of 6 balls with the score on 95 we lost the wickets of Rootsy (47), Paddy (39), and Kiran (0).
Ringo and Niall then began to rebuild the innings and put on 61 for the 4th wicket, before Ringo was dismissed for 20, with the score on 156. |
Both Murph and Greg Gillespie acme and went cheaply, while Niall continued his mauling of the Fleetwood bowlers, in very much the style we have missed for most of this season. With a little more than 3 overs remaining Niall was eventually dismissed for a very good 101, with the score on 235.
Our innings eventually finished on 244 for 7 after 54 overs.
We remain very optimistic for the remainder of the season, as following our visit to New Brighton this Saturday, the following 3 Saturdays we have 3 home games.
