Mark grew up in the Rhondda Valley in South Wales.
His first competitive game of cricket came at 11 years old playing for his school.
A somewhat dower opening batsman in the Boycott mould, he would often infuriate his classmates by batting 20 overs for about 20 runs. Nothing has changed there then !!
At the age of 15 Mark started playing senior cricket for an old drinks company side Thomas & Evans. These were a national supplier of Corona soft drinks.
At 18 Mark represented the Rhondda League XI and went on to play for the league until 1987
He was awarded the league best batsman of the year trophy in 1984 scoring 115 n.o. in a 16 over game during that season.
During the 1985 season he captained Thomas and Evans until he moved abroad in 1987.
Since joining Maghull C.C. in 2006 Mark has found a new lease of life at 43 and was elected captain of the 3rds for the 2007 season.
