About Maghull Cricket Club
We are Maghull Cricket Club, established in 1926, with our headquarters at Old Hall Field located about ten miles from Liverpool City Centre.
Our 1st and 2nd XI play their home games here on Saturdays, with our 3rd XI sharing the use of the Old Hospital Ground with Moss Side Cricket Club.
Local Partnerships
Maghull have played at Hall Lane since the 1950s, having begun their cricketing life on another site in the town, and share the facility with Maghull Football Club.
Proud of our History
Maghull are proud members of the Liverpool and District Cricket Competition, joining the LDCC in 1999, after playing in the Southport and District Amateur Cricket League from 1979. The 1st XI have won the 1st XI First Division title three times, finishing as champions following the 2001, 2005, and 2011 seasons, while also taking the Second Division title in 2023.
Further promotions and trophies
The 2nd XI won the First Division in 2010 while also gaining promotion to the Premier Division in 2012. The 3rd XI won the First Division in 2004, 2007 and 2021, while also lifting the Embee Trophy in 2011, and in 2022 the club reintroduced a Sunday 4th XI to provide younger players with their first opportunities to taste adult cricket.
Leading the way
In addition to the senior sides, Maghull is also home to ladies cricket, with new players of all ability levels welcome, while also featuring junior sides from Under 9s all the way up to U15 level.
Developing Players Who Go Further
Notable former players include Paddy McKeown, who played 40 times for Lancashire between 1996-2000, Kiran Powar, former Indian A all-rounder and brother of Indian international off spinner Ramesh, and Niall McDonnell, a former 1st XI captain who played seven times for Ireland A between 2010-2012.
Where we are
Set against the backdrop of St Andrews Church and the Leeds - Liverpool canal, the ground provides a pleasant arena in which to enjoy cricket, either playing or watching, and our clubhouse, set close to the playing area, is available for functions.
Our Centenary Year
2026 is the club’s centenary year, and there are a host of events lined up to help us celebrate 100 glorious years of one of the oldest sports clubs in Maghull, and look ahead to what the next century will bring.
