A third league defeat in a row saw Maghull fall to last place in the 1st XI 1st Division on Saturday, thanks also to Old Xaverians three wicket win at Spring View.
Maghull captain Anthony Molloy elected to bat first but saw his side bundled out inside 28 overs for just 76. Craig Black (24) and Cam Lawrenson (21) shared a 31 run stand for sixth wicket, but Maghull were unable to establish any other partnerships off note.
Liverpool required only 43 balls to reach the victory, losing a solitary wicket in the process to Black.
Maghull travel to Old Xavs next Saturday in what has become a must win game as they look to stave off relegation.
The 2nd XI continued their push for an immediate return to the 1st Division with a six wicket win over Parkfield Liscard. The home side batted first but their 50.4 overs only mustered 130 runs for the loss of the whole side. Inam Khan took a seasons best 5-31 with Declan Devine chipping in with 2-13. Maghull found themselves in trouble in their reply as they fell to 68-5, but Khan shared a 31 run alliance with Joe Cunningham (26) and an unbeaten 35 stand with Shaun Hornby for the seventh wicket to see Maghull home, finishing with 22 from 15 balls.
Maghull are second in the table and made up ground on leaders Rainhill, who lost away at Caldy, and put distance them and third placed Sutton, who were held to a stalemate by Norley Hall. Prescot and Odyssey are next on the slate for the 2nds next Saturday.
The 3rd XI fell to a six wicket loss at home to league leaders Bootle at Moss Side. Batting first, Maghull were bowled out for 90, with Martin Fitton (26) and Neil Dutton (20) the top scorers. Maghull showed spirit with the ball and in the field, but Bootle were able to overhaul the total inside 25 overs for the loss of four wickets, Fitton finishing with 2-26 from seven overs.
The 4th XI fell to a 92 run loss away at Sefton Park on Sunday. Batting first, the home side made 221-8 from 44 overs, with Toby Pickles taking 3-44 from his nine overs. Dan Kimm and Martin Scott also took a pair of wickets each. Reduced to nine fit batters, Maghull could only muster 129. Paul McKenna hit an unbeaten 58 from 54 balls sharing a 57 run stand with Tadhg Bell for the 5th wicket, while Phil Ivens also made 30 from 44 deliveries.
