Hornby Keeps 2nd XI Cup Hopes on Track

The 2nd XI were in T20 action on Tuesday night.

A fantastic all-round performance from Shaun Hornby propelled Maghull 2nd XI into the second round of the Chrysalis Cup on Tuesday night.

Dominating With the Ball

Old Xaverians were the visitors to Hall Lane, and captain Grierson elected to bat first after winning the toss. But he saw his side fall to 69-5 before recovering to post 132-8 from their 20 overs. Hornby led the way with 3-23 from his four overs. Inam Khan also claimed 2-17, while there were also wickets for Chris King, Rowan Badger, and Liam Gibbons.

Hitting Out

When it came to Maghull’s turn to bat, Hornby once again led the way. He hit 60 of the 107 runs scored while he was at the crease, hitting three 4s and four 6s in his 39-ball stay. Hornby shared a 103 stand for the second wicket with Frank Byron. He racked up 43 from 38 balls with five 4s and a six. Byron was the fifth and final wicket to fall, departing with the score on 126. Matt Bean and Jamie Reagan-Hammond saw the home side to the victory total with 11 balls remaining.
