Rain hit game sees Maghull knocked out
The 1st XI crashed out of the ECB Vitality Club T20 L&DCC Competition last night, losing a rain-affected game against Wallasey at Hall Lane.
In a match reduced to 15 overs a side, Maghull captain Macauley Lawrenson opted to bat first. He saw his openers put on 53 for the first wicket. Jon Ring (29 from 26) and Harry Beddard (35 from 27) seemed to be in belligerent form. But only Anthony Molloy (11) was able to join these two in reaching double figures. Maghull wickets fell regularly. By the end of their 15, Maghull had posted 110-7.
The total didn’t look like enough. This was especially true after Wallasey’s reply began with 19 off the first over. The visitors did lose a wicket with the score on 40. Skipper Greg Beaver fell for 39 from just 15 balls. A second wicket went down on 77, with Josh Byrne snaffling both scalps. But with the rain beginning to fall heavily, the umpires decided that conditions were unplayable at the conclusion of the sixth over. By this time, the away side had 95. Thanks to DLS, they had done enough to advance to the next round.
