2nd XI Out of Chrysalis Cup

Bat dominates ball at Birkenhead Park

The 2nd XI’s quest for Chrysalis Cup glory came to an end on Thursday night. Joe Cunningham’s side lost by 37 runs away at Birkenhead Park in the second round of the competition.

The home side batted first after winning the toss. They posted an imposing 194–1 in their 20 overs, with opener Craig Hawthorne the star man. The right-hander hit 102* from 66 balls, with 10 fours and four sixes. Hawthorne shared a 151-run stand for the second wicket with Dan Jordan, who contributed 54* from 32 deliveries. The sole wicket to fall was Dom Develing, who allowed Shaun Hornby to take a catch of his own bowling.

In reply, Maghull managed 157-1 from their allotted overs. The second wicket pair of Jamie Breakwell (78* from 60) and Frank Byron (52* from 51) shared an unbroken stand of 130. But it was not enough to get close to the victory total.

The 2nd XI’s focus for the 2026 season now lies solely on the league.
