Maghull’s Ladies softball side have swept all before them in 2026
After the bitter disappointment of the 2025 season, Maghull Ladies softball side have bounced back in splendid style in 2026. After finishing rock bottom of the Second Division a year ago, the side have ended this season top of the pile.
The league title was secured on Tuesday night with a win away at Newton-le-Willows. This was their fifth victory in seven games, with another win coming by way of concession. Maghull have finished in top spot for the first time since 2022.
Maghull Ladies captain, Deb Bowden, said, “We struggled to field a full side for many of our fixtures last year, with restrictions on the number of hardball players allowed to play softball. We were not the only team with this problem. The league allowed some clubs, Maghull included, dispensation from the hardball restrictions in 2026.”
“It’s lovely to win the league, especially in Maghull’s centenary year. Every player played their part, whether they played in one game or six.”
It has not been all plain sailing, however, as Deb has not been able to call on a massive squad throughout the season.
“With around 11 players to pick from, not all of whom can play in every game, getting a side out for every fixture has remained a challenge throughout the season.”
Congrats to the ladies and girls on their success. Want to be a part of the team in 2027? Get in touch!
