When Craig Black caught Harry Moxham without scoring for Highfield on Saturday, it not only gave Greg Coogan a chance at a hat trick, but it gave him his 150th wicket for the club. Coogan didn’t get the three in three, but he did add Joel Welsby to give him 4-53 on the day and 151 Maghull wickets in total.
Since joining the club in 2023, Greg has played 50 games, all for the 1st XI. His first wicket for Maghull came in his debut against Parkfiekd Liscard, catching Rasika Dahanayakw Yapa off his own bowling on his way to 3-38. He took his first five wicket haul just a week later, with 6-49 against Northop Hall. He took five wickets in an innings another five times that season, and has 11 such hauls in total.
Greg’s best figures for Maghull came in that magical 2023 season, a year in which he took 76 wickets, when he took 8-36 to bowl out Prestatyn for 85 in their pursuit of 140.
In total, Greg has bowled 801.3 overs, with 199 maidens, conceding 2,338 runs for his 151 wickets. He’s allowed a miserly 2.92 runs per over while taking a wicket every 31.8 balls.
Here’s hoping Greg takes many more wickets for Maghull, especially in the seasons closing weeks as the 1st XI look to stave off relegation from the first division.
