The 1st XIs fate will be decided on the final weekend of the 2025 cricket season, after their game with ORT was abandoned without a ball being bowled and Old Xaverians lost at S&B. These results leave Maghull in 11th in the 1st XI First Division on 178 points, four points ahead of Old Xavs.
Maghull welcome Hightown, who can finish no higher than 8th, while Old Xavs travel to ORT, who are ten points behind leaders Liverpool but also only 21 ahead of third placed Spring View. Orrell will have plenty to play for when Old Xavs come to town.
The 2nd XI, who secured promotion last week, missed out a chance to secure the 2nd division championship after a close loss at Caldy, their first league defeat of the season. Caldy were reduced to 9-4 and 49-8 before recovering to post 119 all out. James Stanley and Rowan Badger took three wickets each, Gareth Barry two and there was one each for Owen Bromilow and Jamie Breakwell. In reply, Maghull collapsed from 50-1 to 84-9, with Jamie Regan-Hammond (33) and Breakwell (27) the only batters to make double figures. A 10th wicket stand between John Comer (14) and Neil Dutton (11) took the 2nds close but Dutton was dismissed with the score on 114, leaving Maghull five runs short.
Rainhill are top of the league, but they played their final league match of the season on Saturday and could only draw with Fleetwood Hesketh. Maghull are nine points behind, and a win or tie next week would secure the title for Breakwell’s band.
The 4th XIs game against Liverpool on Sunday was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
