A look back on the latest weekend of action for Maghull CC’s senior sides.
The 1st XI fell to a second straight defeat on Saturday, going down by 122 runs against Northop Hall.
Left Arm Spinners Share Seven Wickets
Maghull captain Macauley Lawrenson invited Northop Hall to bat first after winning the toss. The visitors lost wickets regularly, but still declared after 55 overs on 198-8.
Greg Coogan put in a huge shift for the home side, bowling 27 overs and taking 4-85. The spell takes Coogan to 30 wickets for the season and 181 in all competitions for the club. Cam Lawrenson also claimed three wickets, taking 3-47 from his 10 overs to move to 24 wickets in 2026.
Jenkins Blows Home Side Away
Maghull struggled in reply as Northop opening bowler Paul Jenkins tore through the batting order. Jenkins claimed 5-34 from 13.4 overs as he bowled Maghull out for just 76.
The home side had already lost half their wickets for 56, before Northop wrapped up the innings by taking the final five wickets for just 20 runs. Shaun Hornby top-scored with 24, while captain Lawrenson added 12. They were the only Maghull batters to reach double figures.
Maghull have dropped to eighth in the First Division and need another 18 points to mathematically secure their place in the division. They will look to take another step towards safety when they travel to New Brighton next Saturday.
2nd XI Lose at Bootle
The 2nd XI suffered a second consecutive defeat on Saturday, losing to Bootle by 10 wickets.
Maghull batted first but struggled to build a competitive total, with Bootle bowling them out for 110 inside 39 overs. Opener Paul McKenna led the way with 46, but no other batter passed 13, with Liam Gibbons the next highest scorer.
Bootle made light work of the chase, reaching 111 without loss after just 15.2 overs. Openers Danny Hart and Tom Meskell both finished unbeaten on 50.

The result leaves Maghull in the bottom two, one point behind Spring View. They will aim to return to winning ways next week when New Brighton travel to Hall Lane.
3rd XI Win Again
Najeem Mohamed and Mohan Banoth starred as Gareth Lloyd’s 3rd XI beat Northop Hall by 30 runs at the Old Hospital Ground.
Maghull slipped to 23-4 before Mohamed and Will Noble steadied the innings with a 63-run partnership. Mohamed eventually fell for a well-made 53 from 76 balls, hitting seven fours and a six, leaving Maghull on 126-8.
Banoth then took charge, adding valuable runs to push Maghull up to 154 before Northop finally dismissed him as the last man out for 48.
Northop battled hard in reply, but Maghull’s bowlers kept the pressure on and bowled the visitors out for 124. Banoth followed his batting contribution with 3-29, while Chris Mawdesley claimed 3-25.

The victory keeps Maghull firmly in the promotion hunt in the First Division. With four crucial games remaining, the 3rd XI face four cup finals between now and the end of the season, starting next week with a trip to Caldy.
4th XI Win Friendly v Rainford
On Sunday, the 4th XI beat a young Rainford XI at Hall Lane in a 40-over-a-side friendly. Maghull batted first and posted 200-5 from their 40 overs. Neil Dutton top-scored with 66*, and Owen Quilliam made 52, his first senior half-century. The visitors made 130-8 in reply, with Bill Powell, Joseph Byrne and Quilliam all claiming two wickets each.
