Weather the winner, as all three Saturday games are washed out
The rain that battered the North West on Saturday wreaked havoc on local cricket. All three of Maghull’s Saturday fixtures were abandoned without a ball being bowled.
1st XI Secure First Division Status
The 1st XI secured another season in the First Division after taking five points from their abandoned fixture against Sefton Park. With 75 points still available, they can now target a top-half finish. They will aim to start their strong finish with a trip to Hightown St Mary’s on Saturday.
2nd XI Still in Trouble
The 2nd XI never got their fixture against league leaders Liverpool underway. The rain left the Aigburth outfield saturated and unplayable.

Maghull sit just two points clear of the relegation zone. They have 178 points compared with Spring View’s 176. Both sides face tough challenges this week. Maghull welcome third-placed Southport & Birkdale while Spring View host second-placed Bootle.
3rd XI Still in Promotion Hunt
The 3rd XI also saw their fixture against Northop Hall washed out without a ball being bowled.
Gareth Lloyd’s side remain third in the First Division. They now face a huge “Loser Leaves Town” clash against second-placed Sefton Park next Saturday.
Maghull need to win that game, then beat Birkenhead Park the following week, while picking up as many bonus points as possible, to keep their promotion hopes alive. Exactly how many points they need is somewhat beyond your author’s mathematical abilities.
Suffice to say, Saturday’s clash is the biggest game for the 3rd XI in quite a few years.
