Zack Benton Named Player of the Week

Our Kiwi bowler earned his first POTW nod for his deeds against Hightown.

Zack Benton has been named Club Player of the Week. He helped the 1st XI bowl out Hightown at Hall Lane on Saturday. The Kiwi claimed 4-73 from 16.1 overs as Hightown fell to 184 all out in pursuit of 234.

Zack took the wickets of Hightown’s No.3 and 5 batters during his opening charge. He returned later to claim the last two wickets to fall.

Maghull Director of Cricket Paul McKenna decides on the weekly award winner. He gave Zack the nod while giving an honourable mention to two other candidates from the weekend.

“I have to give it to Zack this week, having played in the game and knowing how it played out,” Paul said. “He deserves it just ahead of Jon Ring (Ring struck 90 in the first innings of the game).”

“A special mention goes to Rowan Badger. Rowan scored his first senior 50 for the 4th XI at Sefton Park on Sunday. He struck some lusty blows in his 80, and it was a pleasure to watch from the boundary.”

Returning to Zack, Paul said, “His ability to bowl high pace and move it in the air AND off the seam will be key for us this year. He’s already showing the match-winning qualities I knew he’d have when we signed him.”

Congratulations to Zack on his award, and here’s hoping it’s not the last!
